Almond
— Almond is at the confluence of the Little Tennessee River and
the Nantahala River, both well known to the white water rafters
but popular with folks who want waterfront homes with out the
risk of flooding. The Little Tennessee River impoundment at
Fontana Dam creates Fontana Lake which reaches all the way to

Bryson City
— Cherokee is for tourists; Bryson City is for home owners. The Tuckaseegee River flows right through the center of town. Once
upon a time the center of town was Depot Street; then the
businesses spread across the river to US-19 (which is 'Main
Street'). The completion of the US-74 freeway pulled the through
traffic away from downtown but it hasn't seemed to hurt the
economy. Folks come to Bryson City because they want to. And the

Cherokee —
Most folks come her for one — or both — of two reasons: to see Native
